Sri Lanka’s latest comedy show, the legal system, today said that it comedian Wimal Weerawansa has been granted bail under an exceptional circumstance which was revealed to attending the final of the Avurudu Kumaraya competition in the one man town of Ekaminihagama.
One of the judges of the competition, his wife and multiple passport holder Sashi Weerawanse said, “In preparation for next week’s Avurudu celebrations I was tasked together other locals in the area who are also our relations, to come up with a shortlist from the entries submitted to the Avurudu Kumarya competition. As there is only one man in this town, we had to ask Wimal to participate and compete against a couple of local bulls and a monkey. At the moment he is sitting in their place.”
“After sending the invite, we were informed he was in jail so we wrote to the judiciary requesting that he be released on bail. To our surprise, they accepted our spurious excuse and agreed to release him. We knew we were in with a chance when we were told that Hirunika still had not been charged for abducting and threatening a member of the public. But considering he is a menace to society, we weren’t keeping our hopes up. However, we kept our daughter sick,” she added.
In the next episode of the sitcom ‘SL legal system’, Arjuna Mahendra will be charged Rs 2500 for large scale bond fraud.
