The CEB said that it had traced the source of the islandwide power interruption to an Aunty Valerie’s residence in Nawala after it was discovered that she had attempted to attach the whole internet to an email to send it to her friends, having previously tried to print an MP3 song.
Speaking about the incident Aunty Valerie said, “My nephew who stays with me was not around on Sunday as he had gone to meet some friends and he is the one who normally helps me with my IT problems like how to Google Google. It was when my nephew was away that I received a number of videos of cats, babies and ancient pictures of Ceylon that I wanted to forward to my friends. But I thought it would be too many emails to send separately and so the best thing to do was to send the whole internet to my friends then they can also see these things. Next thing I know the power went.”
The CEB said, “If your parents don’t know how to use the internet or email, please ensure you are in the vicinity when they are trying to perform tasks. This is what happens when you leave them to their own devices. Just a few weeks ago one lady tried to plug a USB power bank into the kettle and we had power outages in the area where she lived.”
Meanwhile, it was revealed that the recent crash landing of a Project Loon Balloon occurred when Uncle John who was connected to the network via the said balloon, tried to Skype his brother in Melbourne via Whatsapp using Viber.
