Bank Of Ceylon, an institution so old that they have retained the Marketing Manager from the time that the country was still called Ceylon, have apologised for a recent promotional campaign which offered women a non-stick frying pan and said that they could claim and iron instead.
The Marketing Manager, who is expecting a nice warm dinner when he gets home prepared using the non-stick pan that he took from the promotional stock, said, “I remember working here in 1948 when Sri Lanka got Independence and ever since then it is the women who are becoming more independent. We at the bank, of course, had not noticed this change because we believe in traditional values where people know their place in society. My wife still only does the cooking in our house. So it appears that we had not considered the possibility that some women are so independent not only do they cook, they can now iron also.”
“As such, we have now amended our promotion so that those women who were upset by the fact that they would only be eligible for a non-stick pan can now trade it in for an iron. Of course, we will make sure it is available in pink” he added while scoffing the packed lunch his daughter had prepared.
A spokesman for the bank said, “We have had special accounts for women for years because the money they use is different from men. If they try to use the money they withdraw from the account on anything other than groceries and shoes, we have instructed merchants not to accept it.”
