A Belgian Billionaire, who has about the right amount of money to make the Finance Minister’s eyes light up, was today confirmed as only the second person in the world to have confidence in Ravi Karunanayake after it was thought that Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe was his only friend.
The businessman, who has agreed to partake in Ravi’s hair brained scheme of defending the rupee with the help of people with lots of spare money lying around said, “Mr Karunanayake approached me with an idea and of how I could use my money more effectively in a sure bet and asked me to deposit one billion dollars. In the current climate we have been told failure is a good thing and I watched him fail miserably during the recent budget. So it was obvious that I should trust him. Only thing is that the bank details he sent to transfer the money in to was from his personal account, but he later admitted that was a small mistake. Apparently these things happen. On a regular basis”
Mr Karunanayake said, “Despite the nation not trusting me I have found a person of worth, specifically high-net-worth, to place his confidence in me. I had to come up with a scheme to prove to the people of Sri Lanka that I can do something. After much thought and planning, I am confident this idea will work especially as I am keeping my fingers crossed.”
The Minister has refused to comment on whether he will be parking any of his billions to defend the rupee.
