Adding to the chaos of yesterday, the Tourism Minister has issued a statement this morning telling all tourists that they are welcome to the island amid concerns that the hashtag ‘#Blackout’ was trending in Sri Lanka and that certain groups of people would not be welcome.
The Minster said, “While some areas of the country discriminate against locals, we do not have the same issue with regards to any tourists planning on visiting the country and so please come as we need your money to invest into our ailing power generation projects. And I think if you are hoping to get closer to nature, we can add to that ambience by reducing your dependence on electricity.”
The #BlackLivesMatter campaign has said they are going to keep an eye on this #Blackout issue and will bring their protests to Sri Lanka if need be.
Meanwhile, the Minister for Energy has apparently refused to accept the offer of resignation submitted by the Chairman of the CEB, saying that he will have no one to blame if he leaves. Speaking at a press conference the minister said, “While the chain of command goes upwards, the chain of blame must go in the other direction. Mr Wijepala is trying to resign and break the chain with his integrity. This is not acceptable. Next thing people will want me to go.”
The CEB are also considering ordering industrial sized USB powerbank to plug into the grid before the next Blackout.
