The Coconut Cultivation Board of Sri Lanka said that its decision to get former government crooks and their cronies arrested as the marketing strategy is paying dividends after noticing a spike in the sale of coconuts in recent weeks.
The Head Of Marketing of the Board said’, “In the past we tried a number of different campaigns to increase the sales of our coconuts, from giving them a ‘brand personality’ to a celebrity endorsement from Kumar Sangakkara as we think that he may actually be one. But they only had a marginal impact on sales. Since we pursued a strategy of reporting suspected financial crimes committed by people involved with the former government, however, we have seen a dramatic increase in sales. Just yesterday someone placed an order for ten thousand coconuts.”
“We have now compiled a list of other suspected pilferers and will be working closely with the FCID to uncover them in order to drive further growth. We have also stopped all the above the line campaigns and sacked our advertising agency. All they kept telling us to do was to make the logo big in our adverts.” he added.
Meanwhile, the FCID said prior to last night’s protest that they had informed the Joint Opposition in writing that they no longer accept Coconuts as bribes, but were willing to consider a large consignment Green Chillies as a means of currying favour.
