The cost of the unpopular beverage Poison has soared in the last few days as a number of politicians have been purchasing stocks to use as part of their election campaigns, a stunt that even Donald Trump has not resorted to.
UPFA members Perera, Gunawardena and Gammanpila unveiled the first batch of poison and taunted members of the UNP to have a sip of it for alleged violation of election laws and also for claiming credit for activities initiated by the former regime. A call for ‘Bottoms Up’ by a member of the public went unheeded by the politicians who were holding buddy sized bottles of the drink.
Meanwhile UNP MP Harin Fernando today upped the ante by unveiling his stockpile of the drink in the form of a litre version and challenged Mr Perera to have a gulp on the day after the election during the leaving party that they will be throwing for themselves.
Makers of the drink are looking in to producing a sugar free version for politicians who are concerned about their health and looking to lose weight.
TV ratings for the Sri Lanka’s latest drama series – Mathiwaranaya 2015 – have reached an all-time high and, with no production costs required, it is proving to be a successful money spinner for several TV channels except ART TV that still no one watches.
