The English literary world has been informed that a famous quote popularised by Mark Twain is to be updated with the word ‘statistics’ replaced by ‘Bandula Gunawardena’ after the Sri Lankan MP was exposed by BBC super journalist Azzam Ameen to be a bare faced liar. It will henceforth be written as ‘lies, damn lies and Bandula Gunawardena’.
The Opposition MP last week claimed that no land had been given on a freehold basis to China as part of the Port City Development agreement signed by the former Government. However, at a press conference held yesterday, Mr Gunawardena was handed over a copy of the agreement which categorically stated that part of the land would be given on a freehold basis.
At a press conference, the MP said, “You journalists are the ones who don’t read the papers. Even since Trump was elected, it was declared that we live a post-truth world. So I’m just a person who lives in the times. You guys are living in the past with your assertions of truth. I’m just in the current zeitgeist.”
“In the media world the current trend is fake news, so this is what I create. It’s important that fake news exists to balance out against real news otherwise only one side has the monopoly of the message,” he added.
Bandula remained seated during the entire press conference after his pants spontaneously combusted after he was exposed, leaving him further exposed.
