The Sri Lanka Tourist Board are considering a new marketing approach to target high net worth foreign gangsters, who enjoy relaxing on a beach after carrying out underworld activities, following the recent wave of shootings that have been taking place in the country.
A senior executive at the board said, “The recent flurry of people being gunned down shows that we this is a potential growth sector and we want to go beyond local gangs and invite foreign mafia figures to come down and ply their trade. Most of them, who come from the west, currently have to suffer in freezing conditions after committing a crime, but in Sri Lanka, they have the option of heading down to the beach and enjoying a slice of paradise and wear shades to protect their eyes, not just their identity.”
“We are trying to use our best creative minds to make this happen and in addition to the ‘Gangsta’s Paradise’ tag we are also hoping to use ‘We’ve got waves – crime and surfing’ in order to get coverage of this campaign in the media,” he added
The government has reassured local underworld criminals that unlike ECTA, there was no foreign agreement and that visiting mafia would not be taking over local hits, and that they would only help grow the size of the overall market and share some techniques.
