A number of men have told their girlfriends that as a result of the removal of the exemption of VAT on phone calls which will result in an increase in charges, they will unfortunately and with great reluctance have to end their conversations 15% earlier than normal.
One man who was almost inconsolable said, “I love speaking to my girlfriend 17 times a day. Sometimes she calls me just to see if I pick up. How sweet of her. Like most couples we also play that game where we see who will be the most unnecessarily offended when one person hangs up despite insisting the other person hangs up. We normally ask each other to hang up first about 60 times but we will have to reduce it to 45 times as a result of the change in the VAT status otherwise it will cost us more to be in this relationship. Now I’ll have to just spend that extra time listening to my favourite rock band, which is a bummer.”
One girl said, “I have told my boyfriend that although we will be talking 15% less over the phone we can still chat via Whatsapp or Viber. In any case, he better not be using the extra 15% minutes of our talk time to chat with his ex, or else something of his may end up 15% less as well.”
