I Only Suppressed Journalists, Not The Media Says Mahinda

msmedFormer President Mahinda Rajapakse has complained that the current regime is suppressing the media saying that during his tenure, only journalists were suppressed.

Speaking at yet another press conference, Mr Rajapakse said, “Under my leadership, we did not engage in intimidating the media because we managed to create fear among journalists. This government has resorted to making public accusations of the behaviour of the press, whereas I privately took care of some newscasters. The care was so good they could retire from reporting and take up another profession like hiding.”

“If you take the Sunday Leader for example, my brother called and harassed the editor and then we set up an associate to purchase the publication. At no point did we suppress the media. They can report whatever they like. But if we don’t like it we’ll make a point to let them know,” he added.
