The UNP today defended its decision to organise a rally in the middle of Colombo causing mayhem despite being in power and explained to a confused public that they had an obligation to protest this month as it was March.
A spokesperson for the party at the rally said, “It’s called Protest ‘March’, and that is because this is the month that everybody is given a chance to get together and air their grievances, even if they don’t have any. Under the Good Governance mandate, we wanted to make sure everyone one was afforded the right to gather this month so we decided to have one as well.”
“It’s not like there aren’t things that we can’t complain about too. For one, why are some people pointing out how incompetent we are, when you consider the previous government. And also people are saying we are nepotic, but how can you say that when you consider the previous government.” he added.
