Minister For Tourism, Lands, Christian Religious Affairs and other random portfolios that don’t really go together, said that he would be personally overseeing the erection of the damaged walking path in Wattala and, of the current cabinet he is the politician most suited to build a rigid structure having experienced a similar predicament.
Speaking to the press Mr. Amaratunga said, “Just a few months ago I too had an encounter that resulted in some damage leaving me almost unable to walk. This was a result of an unplanned development with the help of our friends in Thailand. But I soon addressed the issue after realising the discomfort that one would feel if they were damaged in areas that they previously used to roam freely in. Last time I admit there was some personal involvement in the matter but this I had nothing to do with it.”
One resident in the area said, “He has decided to expose himself to this issue and now we are left with the disaster having seen the destruction. We told him not put his hand in it so he decided to get help to put it up. Anyway, we hope that it will come together in the end.”
The UDA has said that the public should be patient when the government decides to erect new structures because it takes time and there is no magic pill for that.
