The authority set up to handle complaints about the sale of drugs at higher prices than set out by the government has said that, based on the monitoring data they received Kuda Jagath made the most number of calls to the hotline to complain about the rising cost of cocaine and MDMA.
In an interview over the phone we had with Mr Jagath (who said he could not afford to call us but would give a ring cut so we could call back) said, “I used to go to work on a cup of coffee in the 90s and moved to alcohol in the naughties considering the reduced workload, static pay and increased cost of living. It was a coping mechanism. But I moved to coke a few years ago. This is basically a mix of coffee and alcohol which increases my productivity and also gives me a buzz and helps me enjoy shit music.”
“Recently though my dealer, Charlie, has begun to increase the cost of a gram of the white powder. But I told him that the government are controlling the price of drugs. He said that he can reduce the price but he will have to mix it with some sugar. I have asked if it can be salt instead as sugar is not good for your health,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Government has said they are not concerned with MDMA saying “We don’t care what the name of Rajapakse’s new party is but we will eradicate it just like we are eradicating fraud – by letting it happen and then conducting an investigation.”
