Following the news that the life expectancy of Sri Lankans had increased by an average of six years since 2001 the entire population has complained that as a result, they will have to suffer more Government ineptitude and the extra years will most likely be lived in misery.
On hearing the news, one person said, “This is terrible. We have suffered under every Government and now it looks like we have to endure this for another six years. What is the point of living longer under these circumstances with a grumpy husband? I’ll just go back to the fast food, fizzy drinks and extra sugar tea and that should help rectify the issue.”
Another person said, “Can we decide where these additional years are to be added? I want a few more years in my early twenties when life was one big party and I had fewer obligations. And I wasn’t married. What’s the point in having these years at the end when I’ll no longer be able to go out and enjoy life, have a nagging wife and a decreased libido?”
Of the additional six years, people living in Colombo will spend one and half of those years in traffic.
