Maithripala Sirisena today said that despite the emergence of a racist campaign supported a number of nationalistic idiots with a superiority complex, which continues to spread division among the people of Sri Lanka, there was no need to make a statement as he has not seen any stickers or graffiti first hand, so there is no problem.
Speaking in front of another gathering of Buddhist monks (which seems to be every other day now) and playing to the gallery, the President said “People are saying that there are groups going around promoting racism under a campaign called ‘Singha-Le’. Well, I haven’t seen anything of the sort despite travelling around the country extensively on a daily basis. I have passed several cars and trishaws at over 100 mph in my convoy which blocks the view of other vehicles and am yet to see any stickers. Also, I have checked the gate outside Temple Trees, The Presidential Secretariat and my house, but there is no sign of any graffiti. So this is not a problem and I don’t need to do anything about it yet.”
“When I was campaigning for the presidency, I stated that I would eradicate campaigns with racist overtones which were formed during the previous government and I delivered on that, but I never said anything about movements which started under my tenure. Plus ‘Singha-Le’ isn’t even a blood type so no need to take these things seriously. Not like anyone spray painted a picture of a bra… ” he added
