President Maithripala Sirisena today embarked on an official state visit to Russia in a bid to prevent the likelihood of the Kremlin wiretapping Sri Lankan by going and telling state secrets directly to President Vladamir Putin.
A statement from the Presidential Secretariat said, “After discovering that the Kremlin was engaged in a widespread global surveillance programme, the President requested local security chiefs to come up with a solution to tackle the potential threat to Sri Lanka. Among the key files that President Sirisena suspects the Russians are trying to target include ‘Daham’s guide to Nightclubs’, ‘Ravi’s guide to Economics for One’ and ‘Rajapakses assets are freezing in Siberia’”
“The best strategy that the intelligence committee came up with was to get the President to go to Moscow and hand over the secrets in person. That way they will not need to engage in wiretapping and will be on the few countries to have prevented the Russian Secret Services from listening in to Government conversations,” the statement added.
