Following the news that Ravi Karunanayake has reported the existence of fake social media accounts are being run in his name, people on social media have in turn reported the existence of a fake Minister of Finance.
Mr. Karunanayake reported that unauthorised Twitter and Facebook accounts were being operated purported to be him. He said that he noticed that they were fake as they were dispensing economic and finance policies that actually made sense. Speaking at a news conference the Minister said, “I have never had an official social media presence. These accounts are clearly fake. If they were real the posts wouldn’t be receiving any likes and not shared as I would just be spouting rubbish masked as financial policy. The current accounts are clearly operated by a miscreant who has good knowledge of managing a country’s finances.”
People on Social Media said, “There is obviously a fake Minister of Finance. We have reported him to the CID. This minister is detrimental to the national interests of the unity government as he is unable to articulate proper policy and keeps bungling things up. Like the VAT policy which no one has a clear idea about.”
Facebook and Twitter have both said they will look into the fake accounts while also trying to delete Ravi Karunanayake as well.
