Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake’s autocorrect function has yet to let him say loan properly with the most recent incident involving him announcing that a loan provided by the World Bank as a ‘facility’.
Speaking to the media, Mr Karunanayake said, “Because we can’t get a grip on the country’s finances we need more loans help. I asked the World Bank for another loan grant and they have agreed, mainly because it is the festive season. I am grateful for the hard work the Government have done to spend all the money we have on unnecessary stuff which is why we need this loan package of aid.”
A spokesperson for the World Bank said, “Ravi can call it a tomato if he wants but there is no mistaking that what we are giving is a loan. The money we are providing needs to be returned with interest. Just because we felt sorry and offered a lower rate of interest does not change that fact that this is a loan. Mr. Karunanayake has a problem grasping this. We understand it’s one of many problems he faces.”
The Finance Minister said, “Sometimes when I am at home aloneaid, I like to watch the movie Loan Grant Ranger and I don’t feel lonely facility anymore.”
