Field Marshall Sarath Fonseka, who was appointed through the back door of the National List purely in order to agitate the former regime, has been accused or running off his mouth which led to the start of a brawl in Parliament, despite claiming to previously having the skills to end a large scale fight.
Mr Fonseka, author of the quote “I reduced Government spending by 10 million rupees, when I ordered a car that costs 40 million rupees, despite having the right to order a car worth 50 million rupees”, instigated the latest outbreak in Parliament when he began speaking against former President Rajapakse in an unprovoked outburst. He said, “Well I’m not sure what I’m doing in this Government really apart from ordering cars worth 40 million rupees and being hauled out in front of the media to make statements that will irate the former first family. This time, the Prime Minister gave me a nice hospital pass in Parliament so I decided to speak but it seems someone else ended up in hospital.”
“My experience is in dealing with battlefield situations so in unfamiliar conditions including where no conflict exists, I try to create a combat zone that results in the best environment for me to operate in” he added.
Meanwhile, while physical harm as a result of the brawl was minimal, a number of psychiatrists have been treating parliamentarians whose egos were severely bruised and battered from insults hurled across the house.
