Everyone in Sri Lankan was taken by shock to learn of the existence of an official website for the President only after details of a hacking that occurred last week were revealed in the press.
Hitherto the cyber attack, the website had an average of six monthly unique users over the last year of which five were from the Presidential Secretariat and one was Mahinda Rajapakse. However, since a number of youths engaged in a hack last week, visitors numbers have risen considerably and the site is on course to have the most users for a Sri Lankan website this week.
A spokesperson for the President’s security detail said, “We are still trying to figure out how this happened. We last looked at the President’s website on his laptop and then we locked away the laptop in a secure safe. The safe is still intact so we don’t know how they managed to get to the website which was on the laptop. It’s all very strange. However, we have now added more security detail to the website including a couple of soldiers with bazookas so there is no way they can get through.”
A spokesperson for the group of hackers said, “This was one of our easiest hacks. It knew that the password would include a difficult character in it so we typed “RaviKarunanayake” and bingo, we were in. We only wanted to highlight our plight and also get some more visits to the site as we realised no one was going there. They should actually pay us for the increase in traffic.”
