Voters urged to THINK before thinking by Campaigners

posters_1Politicians from across the country have united in their opposition to the recent awareness campaign conducted by a prominent news organisation. The campaign conducted in conjunction with CAFFE has been going door to door in several districts urging voters to vote for clean candidates.

The campaign titled THINK has encouraged the electorate to not to vote for drug addicts and thieves. One aggrieved politician said “Who the hell can people vote for then? This is a very undemocratic campaign. Everyone will have to stay at home and not cast their vote for anyone. This is just a gimmick to get more people into the CAFE.”

Political anaylsts fear that the threat to the drug and money laundering industries will spell the end of the highly entertaining preferential vote system.

Nimal Wanshabahu said that the THINK campaign is a foreign conspiracy as the Sri Lankan education system has no place for thinking.

Disgruntled voters also complained that the awareness program was misleading as they were not given clear instructions as to who to vote for. Sigatheren Mokadabung from Mahiyanganaya said “We are used to being given a buth packet and gal baagey and being told who to vote for. Now these people are telling us to make up our own minds. Hell of a how do you do this is. Next they’ll be telling us to make our own decisions for everything.”

Meanwhile Upeksha Swarnamali unexpectedly voiced her support saying she was the only clean candidate because she was once in a Sunlight ad
