IGP Pujith Jayasundara was taken into custody this morning after evading the fashion police for over two decades, having been accused of repeatedly ordering khaki uniforms since 1981 when it went out of style.
The senior officer of the fashion force said, “In the intervening years, there have been a number of colours that have come and gone out of style, yet the Sri Lankan policemen and women have continued to commit fashion faux pax by donning the khaki uniforms. They didn’t even bother adding khaki stripes to the uniform in 1989 when stripes were all the rage. The only year it served them well was 1997 when khaki was back in fashion, although that was for the autumn season which Sri Lanka does not have.”
The IGP said, “No wonder we haven’t been that effective all these years and the force has been taking bribes. We thought it was due to the poor training and being undermined by politicians when it turns out that it was because of the colour of the uniform. Well, now that we’ve ordered blue kits for spring / summer 2017, we’ll be more efficient and effective than ever before. Of course, we won’t be able to eradicate corruption until we reach winter 2018 season, when we’ll be donning maroon kits with off the cuff tops.”
