Election Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya has requested the electronic media to take pity on the former President and to stop repeating Maihri’s address to the nation that was made earlier this week.
The Commissioner said that he had received complaints from several members of the UPFA that MR is inconsolable and that they are incredibly tired of having to wipe his tears and keep ‘accidentally’ knocking the trip switch off in his house whenever the speech is about be shown.
One party member said that ‘All the media do is keep harping on about this speech. We tried to change the channels and get him to watch the Ashes and even then one pundit said that “Ashes is what Mahinda’s campaign is going to end in” so he can’t get away from it and it is affecting his health. He didn’t cry this much when he lost the Presidency and although there were tears of laughter when he initially heard that Ranil would be PM again, but he didn’t have the last laugh’
President Sirisena said that making people cry is a sign that Democracy is working.
