The President of Sri Lanka today said he was concerned that liquor was causing a lot of toppling in the country and that the government could also be toppled by if Yahapaalanaya didn’t sober up and turn up for work very soon.
Making an after drinks speech, Mr Sirisena said “I am ready to tackle the menace that is alcohol addition and other drugs. Of course I am not going to tackle the other menace that is dubious politicians and their associates, some of whom no doubt have licences to sell liquor. They should be allowed to sell. And people should be allowed to purchase as it is a free country. But no one should be allowed to drink. If they want they can keep on display in their drinks cabinet.”
“I went to a Government Ministry the other day for a meeting and several staff members were drinking alcohol straight from the bottle; I saw two fellows drinking Vodka and one girl drinking a bottle of Gin.” he added, not knowing that they kept those bottles filled with water as it was cheaper than buying bottled water.
“We need some new measures to tackle this epidemic – measures like 0ml or maybe 5ml will help curb the alcohol problem in this country. And people who have problems no longer need to turn to the bottle – they can now discuss their problems with their partners who generally cause most of the problems in the first place” he concluded.
