Following yet another protest in the south of the country over the weekend, etymologists have said that a group of people who have been described as Hambayos could have only originated from Hambanthota.
The Hambayos, who are known to have a low IQ, high stupidity and a tendency for frequently acting like idiots, were out in force, which they exerted, in order to cause disruption without really knowing why they were causing it. One Hambayo said, “I am part of the ‘Rent a violent crowd’ group of Hambayos. We turn up when asked, mainly by members of the former Government, and without rhyme or reason begin hurling stones and bricks. Some of us also chant. In return, we get transport, a lunch packet, a shot of arrack and our picture on the front page of a national newspaper. All in all, it is a win-win unless one of our missiles lands on someone. But that’s not our problem if they can’t get out of the way”
Long time Hambanthota residents, the Rajapakses said, “We are not of the same ilk of Hambayos that protested. We are political Hambayos and we specialise in ‘salli hamba karanne khomatha’. We never resort to violence or causing unrest directly, because if you can outsource it to other Hambayos then there is no that you get directly implicated.”
The government said that it was not concerned with the disruption at the opening of the Hambayo Free Trade Zone.
