Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe today went as far as Geneva in order to convey the news to the country that he has gone back on his word when he said that the controversial Port City project would be going ahead despite earlier stating ahead of last year’s election that it would be scrapped.
Mr Wickremasinghe, third-time winner of the position of runner-up said, “If there are any allegations they must be thoroughly investigated. But no one has levelled any allegations against me. That’s because so one from the local media is here to ask the hard questions about any I broke promises that I made before I came into office. One fellow even asked me a question about cricket. I told him ‘matches should not be fixed just like pledges made by politicians’.”
“Also, Yahapaalanaya is only applicable in Sri Lanka. I made this statement in Switzerland so it does not need to have met the standards of Good Governance set out by the President. This is the World Economic Forum and so I was a little economical with the truth.” he added
The Prime Minister also said he was incredibly pleased with the turn out to his press conference and Q & A session with just a handful of seats remaining at the front in what was otherwise a ‘full-house’ according to him in politic-speak.
