Facebook has made contact with the Sri Lankan Government to complain that the forthcoming general election has resulted in a significant decline in people taking selfies and posting pictures of their holidays, meals and nights out which, in the main, their friends don’t really give a shit about.
The social media network conducted analysis on posts made by Sri Lankans in the last month and have raised concerns that people may not be taking enough vacations, eating out or partying. “A study we conducted indicated that people who had believed that their friends were actually interested in their every meal and holiday have significantly reduced posting about these activities. We initially thought it was because they finally realised other people, couldn’t care less. But in-depth analysis revealed that they are now posting stuff about an election, which is a trend that these people didn’t want to miss out on.” said a spokesperson.
“The government assured us that once the election is over next week, they are confident that the public will go back to sharing pictures of their every meal, holidays and partying which provides them with validation and spoils the lives of the friends who are not with them.”
Facebook is planning to team up with Go Pro to hand out cameras to all its members and give them a reality video channel on their individual pages so they can share their life in real time to the whole world. The working title for the project is ‘Hell on Earth’.
