The former Minister of Finance today said that had the Government taken heed of his proposal to reduce import tax for helium powered vehicles as he outlined in the 2015 budget, the current fuel shortage could have been avoided.
In an interview, MP Ravi Karunanayake said, “I predicted the current situation a couple of years ago which is why I proposed a significant tax cut for the import of helium vehicles to Sri Lanka in my budget statement of 2015. At the time everyone laughed, like they had just inhaled helium from a balloon. But now who is laughing? Helium is the second most abundant element after politician’s bullshit so there almost no possibility of a shortage.”
Tech Entrepreneur Elon Musk said, “The biggest mistake I made was to invest in electric powered vehicles instead of helium, as Mr Karunanayake suggested. If we built helium cars, people would have access to flying vehicles and we won’t need to build new roads. It would also mean that Ravi Karunanayake could access his penthouse straight from his car.”
