The Government of Sri Lanka has decided to license the franchise of hit TV show The Apprentice with one significant change bring that none of the contestants will be fired but rather transferred for any failure to perform their given tasks.
A Government spokesperson said, “We decided that we need to adapt the show to our culture in order for it to resonate with our audiences. While the show format in terms of dividing teams and handing out tasks will be similar, the key difference will be that in the event of failure to perform the person will not be fired, which happens in the US version but instead, will be transferred and allowed to continue to work.”
“This is something that we currently quite effectively use within the policing structure of Sri Lanka. Anytime an officer is alleged to have committed a crime they are almost immediately transferred to a different area of the country without any real impunity. This helps play down the significance of the alleged crime and also makes it seem like the Government are taking action when it’s even less than a slap on the wrists,” he added.
While the winner will get a job with one of the country’s leading conglomerates, the least effective candidate will be given the position of IGP.
