All police personnel in Sri Lanka have been issued with the complete box set of CSI which they need to complete watching before the opening of Sri Lanka’s first forensic crime lab, which was announced this morning.
A spokesperson for the force said, “The Government are spending a considerable amount of money to build this new lab but unfortunately there is very little funding left for training. Having evaluated the options to us we decided that giving all officers with a copy of the hit series CSI is the most cost efficient way to provide them with the training that they need rather than hire expensive personnel. Most incidents that our officers encounter will be covered by the box sets although we will provide extra training for indigenous situations like death from aggressive baila dancing, stabbing due to lack of filling in malu pans and offence taken from social media posts and comments.”
Meanwhile, the leader of the police union said “While we agree to undertake this training we also want to have some extra training around key areas including ‘How to contaminate a crime scene deliberately if we get paid’ and ‘How to hide the fact that your incompetence has contaminated a crime scene yet again’. Once we get the assurance that these aspects will be covered we will sign up to the program.”
CSI: Dematagoda Central will air on a local channel soon as the first crime following the opening of the lab is actually solved, which is expected to be 2025.
