The UNP general secretary today announced that it has submitted a proposal requesting all cities in Sri Lanka to be renamed Colombo or similar in order improve the chances of winning the next election with a comfortable margin
The Secretary issued a statement saying that “We had a look at previous results to see what we could do to improve our chances of winning. There was a strong correlation between defeat and the presence of Mr Wickremasinghe, but unfortunately we are not having any progress in forcing his retirement as he is a stubborn bugger. We then resorted to looking at other factors and, having segmented the data geographically, we have seen that if a city is named Colombo we generally fair well.”
“There is also some degree of positive association between green and the Colombo types, who love green things. And I don’t mean trees – it’s the stuff that doesn’t grow on them. So we benefit from that relationship as well”
So far changes to city names proposed by the UNP include renaming Kandy as Kolombo, Galle as Golombo and Negombo as Sounds like Colombo.
The UPFA have said that if the measure is approved they would be submitting their own proposal to rename all cities as Hambanthota.
