A Sri Lankan working in the US who receives a generous salary despite being sidelined from carrying out any actual work has said that he empathises with Mervyn Silva, who during his time as an MP also received a wage for not doing any work.
Speaking to a local newspaper, the man said “I thought I was the only Sri Lankan who gets paid not to do much but then I realised just by thinking that I am no longer a Sri Lankan because quite a few of them would like this role. But for me, the situation is demoralising and I know what it must have felt like for the former MP Mervyn Silva, who suffered the same predicament of earning a wage and then not doing much.”
“Mr Silva worked very hard to bribe and intimidate his way to getting into power, but then had very little to do. Unfortunately his lack of skills, intellect and political connections meant that he couldn’t actual do a proper job. However we must acknowledge his major career achievements of tying a teacher to a tree and raiding the Rupavahini offices,” he added.
Meanwhile, the gentleman has been offered a role in the Govt sector as the head of HR said that he had the right ability to waste time and would fit right into any role within the structure.
