Sri Lankan protestors were claiming victory against the Government’s move to allocate only one day per week for protests in Colombo, by insisting that all days of the week be renamed Monday.
A spokesperson for the union of protestors said, “We are happy with every day being Monday. Some people have suggested that means that they will have to work every day but in our case, it will result in us being able to protest every day. There are other benefits as well including the fact that one does not need to guess what day of the week it is anymore as it will always be Monday.”
A spokesperson for the Government said, “While on the face of it this is not something we would consider, we have discussed it at Cabinet level and it seems it may actually happen on the condition that all Government work will then only take place on a Tuesday, which means never. This makes it an attractive proposition for the Government.”
Meanwhile, talks are underway to agree a designated cordoned off area for protests, with the protestors suggesting Colombo and the Government suggesting the middle of Beira Lake.
