Chairman of COPE, MP Sunil Handunhetti presented the report on the Bond Scandal to Parliament this morning and said that the top selling Halloween mask this year will be that of former Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendra, who was directly implicated.
Speaking in Parliament, MP Handunhetti said “We released the official report today as it makes for a frightening read just in time for the Halloween weekend. There was a chilling prospect that we would not be able to get the report finalised because the UNP were spooked by the initial findings that their man had been accused. So if anyone wants to dress up and scare people this weekend, we advise getting a mask of Mr. Mahendran.”
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe said, “The report shows the strength of this Parliament as we allowed it to go through. It also shows the weakness in my ability to suppress it. And I did try. But the evidence against my friend was overwhelming. I want to assure you that Mr. Mahendran has not absconded the country and that he has gone for a wedding and be reunited with his money.”
Meanwhile, Arjuna Aloysius has said he has hedged any potential losses to Perpetual Treasuries from the fallout by sending letters of demand for defamation as media reports suggested that he was just a pawn in this scandal when it is alleged he wanted to be the king.”
