Honda took the unprecedented step of recalling their urban SUV Vezel model from Sri Lanka after people complained that the roads of Colombo are flooded with them.
The model, which was introduced last year and has selling faster than deputy minister positions in the government, has been spotted at every junction and are now are on the road at a ratio of 1:2 for every tuk tuk. Trishaw drivers were also involved in the action to the get the vehicles removed from the streets saying that the height and width of the vehicles were hampering their efforts to recklessly overtake in traffic.
One Tuk Tuk driver said ‘Before they were on the streets it was easier to spot gaps in the traffic and try and squeeze or edge our way in to spaces that we couldn’t quite fit in to and cause even more traffic, but since the Vezels came on board, we can’t even see the gaps.’
Vezels were not permitted to participate in the Colombo Night Races and come in a range of colours.
